CTG (Caerphilly Table-Top & Gamers Society) was formed following input from young people and community members after a Caerphilly Comic Con event we organised in 2017, with over 1200 attendees of which 100 community members spoke to us about the need for free educational based clubs in Caerphilly for all ages as many families could not afford the costs to attend paid clubs.
Subsequently, CTG addressed the aforementioned needs by providing: 11 free of charge weekend clubs, including mini events in the year.
The club grew quickly from 5 to 40 attendees per month just from word of mouth, recommendations, school newsletters and social media platform (Facebook, Twitter: @CCaerphilly), engagement.
A project to deliver fortnightly and weekend clubs focusing on non-digital play through board gaming, STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) education and role play games (CTG)
CTG will benefit 50 young people per month, specifically from communities in Caerphilly. The clubs will focus on strengthening parent and child bonds through game play using specialised educational and STEM based games aimed at young children (3-16)
CTG will focus on improving literacy (role-play games) and mathematical (STEM) skills for young children and Gamemploy will reduce social isolation and build confidence and practical abilities and prepare young people for success in today’s modern work place.
The CTG project will be based in Caerphilly library, which is a safe, warm community place accessible to all no matter their background, with facilities to cater for wheelchair users. The project will work in collaboration with the library to deliver the clubs and workshops bringing the Caerphilly community together.Learning new gaming activities which are not digital based, will provide the opportunity to meet new faces reduce isolation and build friendships.
The CTG project will support young children (age 3 upwards) and working with new parents socialising and engaging in educational game play.
